One of the more interesting EVs on the market, the Mazda 6e will be launched at the year-end Thai Motor Expo, which ends this month. Mazda’s electric sedan was showcased at the 2025 Bangkok International Motor Show in March this year, so its upcoming launch in the kingdom isn’t a big surprise.

It is described by Mazda Thailand as the first ‘100% electric vehicle (BEV) developed by Mazda based on the multi-solution technology approach’. That would be ignoring the MX-30 and the fact that the 6th is actually a redesigned Deepal L07. Mazda and Changan (brand owner of Deepal) have been partners in China for many years.

Its local claims include a 50:50 weight distribution, an 80 kWh battery delivering a range of 552 km and ‘fast charge’ technology, allowing it to go from 30-80% SoC in just 15 minutes. “The car also embodies the powerful driving performance that Mazda is known for, developed by Mazda’s engineers who paid close attention to every detail,” the statement said. Whoever developed the 6e, the fact is that China is leading the way in electric cars and they are quite good at it.

Anyway, the Mazda 6e (EZ-6 in China) is a nice car with a nice interior. The 6th is made by Changan in Nanjing, China and the right-hand drive car for Thailand is also expected to come from there (the BIMS show car was left-hand drive).

In Europe, all variants of the 6e are powered by a single rear motor, with the base model delivering 258 PS (190 kW) and 320 Nm, good for 0-100 km/h in 7.6 seconds. A 68.8 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery offers a range of 479 km on the WLTP cycle and accepts up to 165 kW DC fast charging – 10 to 80% SoC in 24 minutes.

The Long Range variants get an 80 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) package that increases the range to 552 km. Here the engine is slightly detuned to 245 hp (180 kW) and 0-100 km/h is slightly slower at 7.8 seconds. Being an NMC package, DC charging drops to a paltry 90 kW, which takes 45 minutes from 10 to 80% SoC. The built-in AC charger is 11 kW.

Interestingly enough, the Mazda 6e is more expensive than a Tesla Model 3 in Europe. In Germany it costs between €44,900 (RM215,858) and €48,500 (RM233,166), while the TM3 is available there from €39,990 (RM192,246) for the base rear-wheel drive version to €44,990 (RM216,260) for the Long Range RWD model which is not offered in Malaysia. This is despite the fact that Teslas offer significantly more range, model for model. We’ll see how much it costs in Thailand.

What about Malaysia, you ask. Bermaz, the Malaysian Mazda distributor, welcomed the Deepal brand earlier this year, so after-sales wouldn’t be an issue if the Mazda 6e eventually came here. However, since the January preview, there has been no news about Deepal.

Anyway, what do you think of this sharply fitted Mazda-badged electric sedan and do you want to see it in Malaysia? The hardware may be Deepal’s, but trust Hiroshima to handle the handling in the 6th, which looks good.
