This was considered a big moment for Gamrot as he entered the fight on short notice and could have vaulted into the championship battle with a big win. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out that way, and now the Polish sensation will have to go back to the drawing board.
In one recent post on social mediaGamrot’s coach Mike Brown said the following about the loss.
Brown reacts to Gamrot’s defeat
“We win together, we lose together. I am truly heartbroken for my friend @mateusz_gamrot, but I always admire his courage. Gamrot is not afraid of big challenges and taking big risks. He landed in Florida three weeks ago to start his training camp for a UFC headliner scheduled for November 8. On his second day in America, he heard the news that Fiziev withdrew from his fight with Charles Oliviera.
“So like the soldier who wanted to go to war, he campaigned hard for the chance to fight the Brazilian legend. A few days later he secured the fight. So Mateus trained hard for about twelve days and jumped on a plane to Brazil and took his chance. It’s always a gamble every time you step in the cage, and this time the gamble didn’t pay off.”
“The fight didn’t go the way we wanted, but Gamrot still has the same warrior spirit and his passion like no other. He is truly one of a kind. I think the fans have great respect for his willingness to fight anywhere, under any circumstance. In 30 professional fights, this was the first time he was ready. When you fight the absolute best fighters on the planet, this is a possibility and will definitely happen eventually.”
“Charles himself is a legend and a former champion, but he too has stumbled in the past. My point is that I still believe in Mateus and I still believe he can be a champion one day. It was a tough loss and a tough pill to swallow, but all we can do right now is get better. We can always get better. #GameTime #UFCRio #AmericanTopTeam”
