Irish Boxing Sensation Callum Walsh entirely addresses Dana White’s vision of the sport.
Earlier this year, White announced that he finally went to the boxing company after more than a decade of rumors and speculation. Although details remain under wraps, the UFC -CEO shunned some feathers when he revealed that this new boxing effort would function outside the four most important administrative bodies of the sport – the WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF – and used the UFC model to arrange fighters and crown champions.
Walsh enthusiastic for ‘UFC’s version of Boxing’
Although not everyone is on board with the attempt by White to restructure an age -old sport, Walsh believes that White’s vision is exactly what the boxing world needs now.
“This is a new era of boxing,” Walsh told MMA Junkie. “This is what we are trying to do. This is what Dana White is involved. You know, we don’t do a shitty fight where people are going to run 10 rounds around the ring, do you know what I mean? This is – the UFC’s version of boxing and we are going to fight.
“I have been in the UFC for a while and I had always hoped that boxing would get the same idea, you know, things a lot easier for the fighters for the week … The meals you get, they deliver the weight -broken things, the UFC staff is unbelievable. They make it very easy. And I think this is boxing.”
Walsh (14-0) is advertised as the next big thing of Boxing and will board Spotlight this Saturday evening in the Co-Main event as part of the Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford Card in Las Vegas. There ‘King’ Callum will come off with colleague unbeaten hunter Fernando Vargas Jr. (17-0).
