Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta has said he is ‘a bit upset’ despite scoring a hat-trick in the club’s 3-3 draw with Bournemouth.
Bournemouth started the match brilliantly and led 2-0 at half-time thanks to a double from teenager Eli Junior Kroupi.
In an enthralling encounter, Palace finally grabbed an equalizer in the 97th minute in perhaps the game of the Premier League season so far, as Mateta coolly converted from the penalty spot.
The Frenchman’s brace had earlier helped the Eagles recover from a two-goal deficit, but Ryan Christie’s goal in the 89th minute appeared to have won the win for Bournemouth.
There was a late twist when Marc Guehi won the home side a penalty, and Mateta converted to earn a point.
However, in further late drama, the 28-year-old squandered a simple chance to win the match from close range over the crossbar. Despite his match ball, Mateta admitted the miss came back to haunt him.
Jean-Philippe Mateta collected an xG of 3.48 against Bournemouth, the most a player has achieved in a single Premier League since expected goals were introduced.

“I want to win every game. I had the ball to win this game,” he reflected on Final Score.
“It’s up to me to score that goal and I didn’t score. That’s why I’m like this.” [unhappy]. I need to cool down, now I’m a little upset.
“It was a fantastic match for the fans, for us we always want three points. We have to win, we will get the point.”
