Phil Foden has said that Manchester City teammate Erling Haaland can still score goals even if he is marked ‘out of the game’.
Haaland scored twice as Manchester City moved top of the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Everton at the Etihad. The home side were frustrated for a long time, with Haaland taking center stage in the opening 45 minutes.
However, he broke the deadlock just before the hour mark after heading in Nico O’Reilly’s cross, before doubling his and City’s effort five minutes later. Haaland has now scored 23 goals in just 13 appearances for club and country this season.
Foden underlined Haaland’s importance to City, with the Norwegian scoring 64.71% of the club’s Premier League goals.
“We know he has the quality to time his runs to perfection and be in the right position. If they take him out of the game he is still capable of scoring and we know he only needs one chance to score,” Foden told Premier League Productions.
“He remained very patient, there wasn’t much space for him today. And as you can see, he is always there for us at the right times, that is the sign of a world-class striker.”
“I think I’m improving my relationship with Erling. I made a few good passes for him today that he could have scored from. Unfortunately, every time I pass to him he seems to miss. We’re definitely building that relationship. I’m finding that ball in the back and getting the ball into areas where he can score goals. It’s something we’ve been working on.”
