Match Report: Man United Women 0-1 Aston Villa Women – Man United News and Transfer News | The People’s Person

Manchester United Women suffered a disappointing first defeat of the season against Aston Villa.

Unfortunately, they were unable to capitalize on Chelsea’s draw with Arsenal in the title race.

First half

United started well in possession and almost opened the scoring when Jess Park’s cross almost found the top corner of the Villa net.

United struggled to create many clear-cut chances as Villa defended well in numbers and it was actually the visitors who forced the first save of the match.

Villa’s Georgia Mullett forced Phallon Tullis-Joyce into a low block from close range.

Unfortunately, the American was unable to stop Villa’s opening shot at the end of the first half.

Tullis-Joyce punched away a corner but Miri Taylor guided the ball into the back of the net to give the away side the lead.

Second half

United came rushing out to equalize but it was once again the Villans who posed the biggest threat.

A long ball over the top sent Missy Bo Kearns through on goal, but Hinata Miyazawa managed to get back just in time to neutralize the threat.

As the hour approached, United came alive. Ella Toone was found at the back post and had an effort that was heroically cleared off the line as it looked like United had grabbed the equalizer.

Leah Galton also came painfully close, but her effort was blocked by the resilient Villa defense.

Marc Skinner’s side continued to huff and puff, but to no avail as the clock ticked towards the end of time.

Veteran Rachel Williams was brought on and she headed towards goal, which was well stopped by Sabrina D’Angelo.

United were not meant to fall to a flat defeat, but they will hope to bounce back quickly when they take on Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League under the Old Trafford floodlights on Wednesday evening.
