The country’s largest automaker said it crossed its first cumulative sales milestone of 1 crore in 28 years and 2 months, and sold the next 1 crore units in 7 years and 5 months.
The next one million units in the domestic market were sold in a record time of six years and four months, the company said in a statement.
Of the 3 crore units sold in India, Alto emerged as the most popular model, with over 47 lakh units sold, followed by the Wagon R with around 34 lakh units, and the Swift with over 32 lakh units, the report said.
The Brezza and Fronx compact SUVs are also among the top ten best-selling vehicles in the company’s portfolio, the automaker said.
āWith a vehicle penetration of approximately 33 vehicles per 1,000 residents, we know our journey is far from over,ā said Maruti Suzuki India MD and CEO Hisashi Takeuchi.
The company will continue to do everything it can to bring the joy of mobility to as many people as possible, he added.
The company delivered the iconic Maruti 800 to its first customer on December 14, 1983.
