The Colorado Avalanche and forward Martin Necas have a deal they were hoping to get done sooner rather than later reached an agreement on an eight-year contract extension worth $92 million. The deal has an annual average value (AAV) of $11.5 million and includes $60.4 million in signing bonuses.
Necas, who is only 26 years old, came to the Avalanche last season on January 24 in the contract of Mikko Rantanen and started working offensively with the team. He finished the season with 11 goals and 28 points in 30 games after the move and a total of 83 points in 79 games during the regular season.
Continuing that offensive production, he also started his first full season with the Avalanche with seven goals and thirteen points in eleven games to start the 2025-26 season, helping the Avalanche gain an early share of the lead in the Central Division.
Necas has an AHL Calder Cup win to his name with the Charlotte Checkers in 2019 and also won an international title in the Czech Extraliga with Kometa Brno in 2016.
So far throughout his career, he has recorded 131 goals and 339 points in 452 regular season games across nine NHL seasons. He also scored twelve goals and 35 points in 66 playoff games.
As for the extension, it runs through the 2034-35 season, making him the first Avalanche player signed after the 2031 season and a key part of their core moving forward.
