Ex-military survival Ryan Wilson said that the study was a timely memory of how quickly a summer road trip can become serious for holiday makers.
“Outbreaks happens, and when they do that, especially in remote areas, you need more than happiness to get through it,” said Mr. Wilson.
The former SASR salute, now founder of Working Paws Australia, has changed his frontline knowledge into practical tips for road trippers.
“When you go to remote or rough parts of Australia, the preparation is everything,” he said.

Must-haves include navigation cards and GPS, food, water, a first aid kit, multi-tool, sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen and even snake bite connections.
The mentality of a traveler was equally important, Mr. Wilson said.
“You are in a situation that requires calm, intentional action. It’s not about being tough, it’s about being smart, staying focused and using what you have to stay safe and get through.”
He insisted on drivers to plan carefully routes, check the weather conditions and tell someone when and where they travel.

Staying with your vehicle was the golden rule, with the car doors or bonnet that were able to offer shade, while tires could weigh chair covers and clothing as an improvised hiding place.
Walking for help must be a final resort:
“If you have to move, make sure you have a clear plan,” said Mr. Wilson.
“Know your instructions, use the sun, a compass or GPS. Wear water, sun protection and a way to communicate.”
Finally, he said, make yourself visible to increase the chance of attracting help.
Reflecting materials, mirrors, foil to flash or even use rocks to form basic signals such as ‘SOS’ or ‘Help’ were options.
Be prepared and stay with your vehicle, says Mr. Wilson
