On the eve of Labor Day Weekend, a natural fire led to the closure of a popular recreational area in the Sierra National Forest to the east of Fresno.
The forest managers said public access to areas such as Courtright and Wishon Reservoirs will be closed from ThursdayAugust 28, because of the grenade fire.
Those reservoirs fall within the evacuation area explained by the Sheriff of Fresno County on Sunday, the day the fire was reported. Despite that order, people said this week on social media that when they called to cancel camping reservations at Wishon Reservoir, staff members told them that they would not receive a full repayment because the forest service had not declared an evacuation.
A statement on Wednesday from Sierra National Forest said that his partial closure will end on 16 September. “Where practical, identifiable sections will be” carved “and the order will be picked up as soon as possible,” said it.
Grenade, one of a wave of Californian forest fires thought to have been fueled by lightning On Wednesday evening, 12,378 hectares (19 square miles) had burned on Wednesday evening, the firefighters of the National Forest said. It is the fifth biggest fire of California of the summer.
The evacuation warrant covers almost 300 square miles of the National Forest in Fresno County, which extends to the east coast of Pine Flat Lake.
The above map shows the evacuation area in red and the estimated fire perimeter as a black line. Updates and details, including evacuation warning zones, can be found on The emergency website of Fresno County.
