Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to expand a fragile -the fires expanded after last month’s deadly border conflicts that left at least 43 people to death and forced more than 300,000 to flee. The agreement was formalized on Thursday in a joint statement signed by the Thai deputy Minister of Defense Nattaphon NarkPhanit and his Cambodian counterpart Tea Seiha. Both parties promised to freeze troop movements and suspend all forms of armed hostilities, including attacks on civilians and military goals.“Both parties agree with a ceasefire -the fire in which all types of weapons are involved … in all cases and all areas. This agreement may not be violated under any circumstances,” said the statement, according to AFP. The Staken-Fires followed five days of intense fights between Thailand and Cambodia along their disputed 800 kilometers limit, where long-term tensions over old tempel locations ruled over the violence. The ceasefire was mediated by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the current Asean chairman, after conversations between US President Donald Trump and the leaders of the two warring countries.Although the first days of the truce limited skirmishes and mutual accusations of violations, the hostilities have since taken. Thailand and Cambodia have also agreed to meet again within a month and to prevent the wrong information that the tensions could escalate. The recent collisions were the most serious in the region in more than ten years.
