Manchester United made it four wins out of four under Michael Carrick, thanks to a 2-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford on Saturday.
The visitors went down to 10 men in the 29th minute, but that doesn’t necessarily make things easier, as the Red Devils will confirm.
They had lost to Everton under Ruben Amorim and often struggled to break low defensive blocks. But not on Saturday.
A clever set-piece routine and a calm head saw United consolidate their grip on fourth spot and inch closer to third.
Casemiro in good form
Casemiro enjoyed another fun outing in the middle of the park, and many ex-players have called on INEOS to reverse their decision.
The Brazilian is all set to leave the Theater of Dreams in the summer once his contract expires after the co-owners opted not to exercise the option for a one-year extension.
United have been linked with several midfielders Stand have thrown a brand new name into the mix: Juventus’ Manuel Locatelli.
The Italian has been with Juve for more than three years, but his time at the Allianz Stadium could be coming to an end after the 20-time English league champions recently contacted his representatives.
His successor identified
According to the report, United view him as the perfect successor to Casemiro, and he could be available for as little as €35-40 million.
“Under Luciano Spalletti, Manuel Locatelli has taken his game to the next level, achieving the progression many predicted – a rise that could now potentially attract the interest of the continent’s elite clubs, especially in England.
“The midfielder has landed on Manchester United’s radar. The Red Devils have reportedly been in contact with the player’s representatives and have identified him as a potential successor to Casemiro, who is set to leave.”
“Given that his contract runs until June 2028, it is unlikely that Juventus will let him go for less than 35 to 40 million euros.”
Manuel Locatelli is a born leader
Although INEOS mainly prefers younger signings, replacing the Brazilian requires not only a quality player, but also someone with a lot of experience and leadership qualities.
And Manuel Locatelli certainly fits that bill. He is the current skipper of the Bianconeri and won the European Championship with Italy. He knows everything about pressure cooker environments and how to win.
Whether United will pursue the Italy international for the aforementioned fee or target soon-to-be free agent Leon Goretzka remains to be seen. A younger, more mobile midfielder is likely to be at the top of the club’s agenda.
