Manchester United unchanged? Ben Sesko and Luke Shaw are fit for the clash with Tottenham – Man United News and Transfer News | The People’s Person

Manchester United starts this weekend on Saturday afternoon. Interim manager Michael Carrick aims to make it four wins out of four by beating Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford. Carrick’s 100% record in this period as interim is all the more impressive considering that two of the wins came against the country’s top two sides, Arsenal and Manchester City.

A thrilling draw against Fulham last weekend also ended in victory, after a brilliant last-minute swivel-and-shoot goal from substitute Ben Sesko.

Whether that sublime bit of skill and composure under pressure will be enough to get the Slovenian back into the starting line-up is likely the biggest dilemma the boss will face in naming his side.

Defense

Despite two goals against the Cottagers, an unchanged defense is expected again. This means Senne Lammens in goal, Diogo Dalot as right back, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez as centre-backs and Luke Shaw as left back.

Tyrell Malacia was prevented from completing a loan move this week, suggesting there may be a fitness issue with Shaw. This could be confirmed this afternoon at the pre-match press conference (available here from around 3pm).

Nouss Mazraoui is another defensive option, as are Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro, but Matthijs de Ligt is unlikely to be fit after a long injury layoff.

Patrick Dorgu is also out injured.

Midfield and attack

The midfield trio Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes are also likely to remain unchanged. Casemiro put in a masterclass against Fulham and will continue to keep Manuel Ugarte on the sidelines.

Without Dorgu’s option, Carrick could also leave its attacking line of Amad, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha unchanged. However, Sesko knocks very loudly on the door. If he were to be introduced, the Brazilian is most likely to make a move, even if it means Amad or Mbeumo playing on the left.

Mason Mount and Josh Zirkzee are other options, but they are unlikely to be considered for a starting spot.

Final thoughts

  • Unchanged side probably, with two possible exceptions.
  • Luke Shaw’s fitness could be a problem.
  • Ben Sesko was able to force his way inside.
