Coventry City youngster George Shepherd has appeared on Manchester United’s radar as they continue their academy recruitment campaign, reports the Daily mail.
Coventry City are on the rise as the second international break of the season arrives and show no signs of being affected by their heartbreaking play-off defeat to Sunderland.
CCFC stands proudly at the top of the championship, the only team still undefeated. With 29 goals to their name, it was a brilliant start to the campaign Frank Lampard will be determined to ensure that the momentum continues.
The Sky Blues continued their brilliant start to the year on Saturday with a 2-0 win at home against Blackburn Rovers. One of the headlines of the match was the emergence of 16-year-old George Shepherd, who was named on the CCFC bench.

Now a report from the Daily mail has suggested that Shepherd is on Manchester United’s radar. It is the 16-year-old’s first appearance in Coventry City’s matchday squad.
He already made his debut for the club’s U21 team this season. He even scored on his debut for the Young Sky Blues.
Manchester United are reportedly just one of several ‘high-profile’ clubs eyeing Shepherd. The Red Devils are currently undergoing a major academy recruitment drive and are eyeing Shepherd as a possible option.
Coventry City may be powerless to resist a Shepherd approach
All clubs want to keep their young homegrown talent with them, but that is often not the case. Ultimately, clubs don’t have much of a chance to keep their young stars if one of the top clubs comes calling.
This could also be the case for Coventry City and Shepherd. At just 16 years old, Shepherd has yet to sign a professional contract with CCFC, meaning he can leave whenever he wants if an agreement is reached with another club.
Should that happen, Lampard’s side would be liable for damages. However, most of the time that compensation is taken out of the hands of the club.
Lampard’s take on Manchester United goalkeeper Shepherd
Coventry City boss Lampard clearly has a liking for the young Shepherd. As an attacking midfielder by profession, at least some of the highest praise in football for Shepherd.
When asked Speaking about Shepherd’s appearance in the squad after the match against Blackburn Rovers, Lampard said: “He deserves his chance on the bench because of the way he has been trained.
“He has to continue, but it was a nice story to get him there. And it’s not just a gift, because the way he’s training and considering the size of our squad, he’s training and he deserves to be on the bench at the moment, so it’s a good story.”
With star player Jack Rudoni still injured, minutes could be offered for Shepherd. If Lampard gives him something, Manchester United might find it harder to sign him.
