Manchester United owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe cooled talk of Ruben Amorim’s sacking last week as he acknowledged the first-team head coach needs time to cement his authority in the squad despite a terrible record since joining the club.
Amorim was supported with a reasonable amount during the summer transfer window, although his tactical resolve was not well received by fans and reportedly some players, raising questions about his future.
Football Insider reported this that while Ratcliffe shielded Amorim from rumors of a sack, the Red Devils are ‘close to a crisis’ and if they lose to Liverpool on Sunday, their manager could very likely be relieved of his duties at the helm.
The pressure on Amorim remains high
It is safe to assume that Manchester United will visit Anfield for their next Premier League match as second favorites against Liverpool, and defeat would condemn them to their fourth defeat in the English top division in eight games this season.
Furthermore, they have already been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Grimsby Town and Ruben Amorim hasn’t even won 50% of his Premier League games, which is a rather worrying record for a club of United’s calibre.
With the pressure on Amorim, the Manchester United board need just one reason to part ways with him and it remains to be seen whether a potential defeat to Liverpool next weekend will ultimately see the Portuguese doomed.
However, United’s replacement options will be very limited as the likes of Andoni Iraola and Oliver Glasner, who they have spoken to, are unlikely to leave their clubs midway through the current season.
