Pep Guardiola wants to bring in a recognized right-back, with midfielder Matheus Nunes set to fill the role for much of the campaign.
Kayode has impressed as part of Brentford, who sit fifth in the Premier League. The Bees have overcome the loss of key figures Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa and Christian Norgaard, alongside manager Thomas Frank, in the summer to challenge for Europe.
Kayode was a key cog in the side. His long throws have been a powerful weapon for the west Londoners, while the defender is among the Premier League’s top performers in terms of aerial balls won (3rd), successful take-ons (8th) and interceptions (10th).
Interest has inevitably arisen in Kayode, a candidate for a problem position at Etihad.
City are not the only ones who admire Kayode. Caught offside claim Bayern Munich, Juventus and Inter Milan are also monitoring his progress.
However, the Citizens have the most ‘serious interest’ in the 21-year-old. Brentford signed Kayode from Fiorentina for a fee of £17 million and will demand a significant profit to consider a sale.
