Vikram Sharma, the man of Indian origin who fled to India after being identified as one of the suspects who set fire to the vehicles of Punjabi musician Ap Dhillon in his British Columbia home at the behest of the Lawrence Boshnoi gang, was living illegally in Canada at the time. His student visa expired in April 2024 and in September 2024 he was seen setting Dhillon’s car on fire. The details were revealed during a court hearing on the case. The 23-year-old is believed to be in India, prosecutors said. “Prior to the offense, Mr. Sharma had provided some fraudulent documents to Immigration, Refugee and Citizenship Canada in an attempt to reinstate his student visa, but because they were determined to be fraudulent, he was required to hold an in-person attendance meeting,” the prosecutor said. Sharma wasn’t alone; co-suspect Abjeet Kingra was present when the duo shot at the singer’s house while Dhillon was not there. But Dhillon’s roommate narrowly missed injury. Kingra’s lawyer told a judge that he came to Canada to study in 2019, but ended up in the wrong group as he struggled to find work. Two months after the arson, Kingra was arrested while en route to Toronto Airport and Sharma had already left the country. Kingra is serving six years in prison after pleading guilty to the attack. Kingra also wrote a handwritten letter of apology to the victim and the community. “I did something terrible and terrifying that could cause harm, injury or death to anyone, which was never my intention,” Kingra wrote.“This is a major mistake that not only scares the victim and his family, but also the community,” he wrote. The court was also informed as to why AP Dhillon was targeted by the Bishnoi gang. Dhillon played Bollywood actor Salman Khan in a music video.
