Manchester United are reportedly planning to make a move to sign Inter Milan star Federico Dimarco, Spanish newspaper reports Transfers.
The Red Devils currently have Luke Shaw, Patrick Dorgu and Tyrell Malacia as left-back options. However, the Dutchman has fallen out of favor and is likely to leave as a free agent at the end of this season.
On the other hand, Dorgu has shown more qualities as a winger than as a left back, scoring against Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle United this season. The Dane has now been out of action for several weeks due to a hamstring injury.
Shaw played regularly this season but has struggled with fitness issues over the years. Furthermore, Noussair Mazraoui can provide cover on the left when needed, even though he is a natural right-back.
Now, Transfers states that Man Utd’s ‘top priority’ is to strengthen the left-back position by signing an attack-minded player in the summer and has identified Dimarco as a serious option.
The Red Devils will send scouts to watch him closely in action against Juventus in a crucial Serie A match tonight before he makes a potential move.
However, Inter Milan has no intention of parting ways with the Italy international and plans to give him a new term until 2030, with a salary increase.
Dimarco to Man Utd
However, with the player’s existing deal running until the end of next season, the Nerazzurri could be forced to cash in on him in a bargain deal in the summer if they ultimately fail to agree a new term with him in the coming months.
Dimarco has flourished in his career as a LWB at the Giuseppe Meazza Stadium, but is also efficient in the left-back role. He is technically sound, can play from the back and has the ability to provide excellent crosses from the flanks.
In 31 games in all competitions this season, he has scored six goals and provided 11 assists. Moreover, he kept 10 clean sheets. Dimarco even guided his side to winning the title while sitting at the top of Serie A with a five-point lead.
After proving his worth in Serie A, Dimarco has secured his place in the starting line-up of the Italian national team. So he could be a smart signing for Man Utd if they were to buy him.
