Manchester United are reportedly doing their best to beat Chelsea in the race to sign Real Madrid striker Vinicius Junior, according to the Spanish newspaper Transfers.
After moving to the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu from Brazilian side Flamengo, the 25-year-old established himself as a talismanic figure, helping his side win every major trophy possible.
However, since the arrival of Kylian Mbappe last year, the Brazilian has lost his importance in Los Merengues’ starting line-up. Xabi Alonso has even started several games without him in the XI this season, and the forward expressed his frustration when he was sent off in the El Clásico.
The Spanish boss has made the Frenchman the main man, putting him in charge of taking penalties.
Now, Transfers claims that Vinicius is annoyed because he is no longer Real Madrid’s main player and wants to leave the Spanish capital to become the star again.
Furthermore, the striker’s existing contract expires in 2027, and they are currently nowhere close to agreeing an extension. So before the winter period, speculations about his future have arisen.
Man Utd and Chelsea want to buy Vinicius by taking advantage of his current situation, and the Blues have already launched a formal proposal worth around £150 million.
Conflict
However, Man Utd are determined to beat Chelsea in this race and are prepared to make a bid of around £200 million to buy their ‘priority target’. Real Madrid are considering making money back by selling the player next year to avoid losing him for free in 2027.
Man Utd strengthened their wide forwards last summer by signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Both have made good starts this season, but United need to add depth in this area if they are to qualify for Europe next season.
On the other hand, Chelsea bought Estevao Willian, Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens in the last transfer window. However, Enzo Maresca seems to be planning to go for a more established name to take the next step in the rebuild.
Vinicius is one of the best strikers in the world and would be a big step forward for Man Utd or Chelsea if either club were to eventually manage to lure him away from the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu in January or next summer.
