Manchester United are ‘seriously considering’ Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher, the Spanish newspaper reports Transfers.
After failing to qualify for European football, the Red Devils started the season with a very thin squad. Now, amid the recent injury and absence from AFCON, Ruben Amorim is left with a very weak team.

Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire have been out injured in recent weeks, while Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes have recently suffered injuries, which will keep the Portuguese sidelined for a few games.
In addition, Mason Mount suffered an injury against Newcastle and may not be able to play in the coming games. On the other hand, Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui have joined their respective countries to play in AFCON.
As a result, Amorim has been forced to use youth from the academy. Still, United managed to beat Newcastle 1-0 thanks to Patrick Dorgu’s excellent goal on Boxing Day.
Now, Transfers claims that with Fernandes, Mainoo and Mount injured, Man Utd are looking to strengthen their midfield department in January and are ‘seriously considering’ signing Gallagher.
United have long held an interest in the former Chelsea star as they tried to secure his service last summer, but Los Rojiblancos did not allow his departure.
Gallagher to Man Utd
The Spanish giants have no intention of letting him leave on loan and will only approve his departure if his potential suitor, such as Man Utd, submits a formal proposal worth around £26 million.
Since his move to the Spanish capital, the midfielder has failed to break into Diego Simeone’s starting lineup. So he might be open to playing regularly.
Gallagher is an energetic, versatile player and plays comfortably all over the park. He has previously shown his qualities in the Premier League for Crystal Palace and Chelsea, and could be a smart signing for the Old Trafford club if they were to sign him.
However, it will be interesting to see whether Amorim’s side will ultimately take a concrete approach to lure him from the Estadio Metropolitano in January.
Meanwhile, after beating Newcastle, Man Utd will take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League in midweek before taking on Leeds United next weekend.
