Manchester United have reportedly opened talks to sign Levante striker Etta Eyong, according to the Spanish newspaper Sport.
After Rasmus Hojlund’s disappointing performances last season, the Red Devils decided to strengthen the striker’s position by signing Benjamin Sesko this summer after letting the Dane leave.
The Slovenian has emerged as the first-choice striker in Ruben Amorim’s starting XI, and Joshua Zirkzee has struggled to get regular game time so far this season.
So it is suggested that the Dutchman has become frustrated with his current situation at Old Trafford and wants to leave next year to play regularly and develop his career.
So perhaps United have started exploring the possibilities of signing a new number 9 in case Zirkzee eventually leaves. Sport report that Man Utd are interested in Eyong and have already made ‘contact’ to finalize a deal to sign the 21-year-old.
The youngster joined Levante from Villarreal this summer and is contracted until 2029. He has a £26m buyout clause in his current contract, so acquiring him should not be a problem for United from a financial point of view.

However, the report states that the Cameroonian is willing to continue playing in La Liga and that his preference is Barcelona, who are also keen to sign him as he has been impressed with his recent standout performances.
Therefore, signing the African will not be easy for the Old Trafford club, and they will have to do their utmost to beat the Blaugrana in this race by convincing the youngster to change his position.
Eyong played the first three games for Villarreal this season before moving to Levante on deadline day. In eight La Liga appearances so far, he has scored five goals and three assists. As a result of his impressive performances, Levante has placed themselves in the mid-table of La Liga.
Eyong is a talented player and has great potential. Therefore, he would be a smart signing for Man Utd if they ultimately manage to secure his services in January or next summer by beating the Catalan giants in this race.
