Man Utd are determined to sign Elliot Anderson

Manchester United have set their sights on signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, according to renowned journalist Andy Mitten.

The Red Devils focused mainly on strengthening their front line last summer. They signed Matheus Cunha, Benjamin Sesko and Byran Mbeumo to strengthen their attack.

The club will likely focus on midfield solutions next year Because claims the Red Devils would love to sign Anderson, and he is exactly the type of player they want.

He said on the Speaking of the devils podcast: “I mentioned Elliot Anderson a few weeks ago – absolutely, Manchester United would love to sign him. It’s clear, and he’s exactly the type of player Manchester United want.

“If you’re listening to this, Elliot Anderson, look at what fellow Geordie Brian Robson did in 1981. You can join one of the biggest football clubs in the world and you can be part of their recovery.

“This train is only going to pass for you once, boy. Get on the train because you will never regret it. You can play for mediocre clubs, you can play for clubs that haven’t treated you well, or you can join Manchester United.”

Upgrade

United have made good progress this season under manager Ruben Amorim and currently sit just three points behind last place in the Champions League. Despite this, there are clear concerns at the heart of midfield.

Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes have struggled to provide sufficient control in the middle of the park. Casemiro is the midfielder, but due to his limited mobility he prefers to defend deep rather than blend into the opposition.

United need someone who can regularly regain possession of the ball in midfield. Anderson is the perfect signee for the role. He won 7 duels and 8 recoveries per league match this season and has won almost 3 tackles per appearance.

The £54 million star has also completed 87% of his passes and launched counter-attacks with marauding runs. With Casemiro’s contract expiring next summer, he could be seen as the Brazil international’s successor next summer.

A mid-season deal seems unlikely as United may not have sufficient budget. Forest are also unlikely to consider his departure as they are in the relegation mix and will need his services to beat the drop.
