Malkin, Crosby and burning questions coming from Penguins Camp – The Hockey Writers Pittsburgh Penguins Latest News, Analysis and more

While the Pittsburgh Penguins are preparing for the 2025-26 season and being back on the ice in the camp, there are questions that remain unanswered. Among them, where does the Sidney Crosby Trade Talk come from, is Evgeni Malkin retired and what movements are the penguins still trying to make? Finally, is the penguins considering making a player for goalkeeper Carter Hart?

Evgeni Malkin is not yet thinking of retirement

David Pagnotta is one of the analysts who have noticed a number of interesting comments from Evgeni Malkin this week. The Penguins icon hinted that this season would not necessarily be his last. He is in waiting mode.

When asked if this could be his last year, he replied that it depends on how the season goes and how he plays. “If we play great, and I feel great … I mean, I am confident that I can show my game. Why not another one yet?” He added: “I’m still hungry.”

When it was important to end his career in Pittsburgh, he said he hoped to not be traded and wanted to stay, but seemed to understand that the season still had to be written and that things could change. He said he has not yet spoken with GM Kyle Dubas, and there is time to have those conversations. “It’s a huge season for everyone.” He said he is not sure how he would feel if the team wanted to exchange him, but he understands how stories such as Brad Marchand can be intriguing for an NHL player.

He even hinted that he could go back to Russia to end his hockey career.

Crosby shoots trade speculation

After the comments of his agent have let people talk, Sidney Crosby essentially shot trade rumors. The ball rolled on a possible trade to the Montreal Canadiens when Crosby spoke glowing about the fans of Montreal and his childhood love for the Habs’ franchise. When his agent suggested that Crosby could feel ready to continue, fans and analysts began to try to connect the points.

Last Sunday Crosby made it clear that he is not thinking of going somewhere.

“There are many stories that are there and I don’t think many of mine came,” said Crosby. “This is where I want to be. I think it’s great here. I can’t keep answering the same question because of these stories, you know?”

He added that he is committed to the penguins. “I think someone who knows me knows what this city means to me and how special it is. I think those rumors or some of those things are lightly.” When asked why his agent may have made comments to point out a move, Crosby replied: “I was surprised and I think Pat knows how much I put in it, how much I think and how much I want to be in the play -offs.” The hint was that Crosby wants to win and that could have been what his agent was aimed at.

Crosby also said that he has no desire to refuel or deliberately lose to obtain a better concept choice.

Penguins are not interested in Carter Hart

GM Kyle Dubas said this week that the Penguins did not make contact with Carter Hart. They don’t goor.

Hart is getting ready for a return to the NHL, and various teams are not interested or have told that Hart does not have them on his radar. So far the penguins, flyers, mammoth, oils and the other Canadian teams are all out.
