A hot Putter helped Amardeeep Malik a two-stroke lead in round two of the Coal India Open in the Kensville Golf & Country Club in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

Noida Golf Course’s Malik (69-65) shot a 7 under 65 on Wednesday to a total of 10-under 134 for the week, the PGTI said.

Angad Cheema from Chandigarh (69-67), the nocturnal joint leader with Malik, placed a 67 on day two to keep second place at 8 under 136.

Delhi’s Shaurya Bhattacharya (71-66) shot a 66 out of the day to become third at 7 under 137.

The cut at the RS 1 Crore event fell at 5 above 149 with 53 professionals and one amateur who made the last two rounds.

Malik started the day with a 15-foot Birdie conversion and made four more shots between eight and 20 feet before the turn.

Hot streak

His good run with the putter continued on the front nine while he sank Birdies of 25 feet and a gigantic 50 feet on the first and third holes respectively.

A dual winner on the PGTI, Malik added a Bogey and Birdie to the fifth and sixth holes.

“I tried to make the safest shot today and as a result to find most fairways and greens,” said Malik Latet.

“I think today I was lucky with the tough greens, because I have converted many long puts. People have to be careful with the speed because the speed is really difficult for these greens. Sometimes a player comes in a zone where he simply feels easy.

“I have not played much wave for the past two and a half months because I recently became a father. But I am just happy that I am back on the track and are participating in the very first event after the resumption of the season.”

Cheema, which played the qualifying event for the open in the UK, came up with a 40-foot Eagle conversion on the sixth together with five birdies and two bogeys.

Rakshit Dahiya from Delhi (72-71), the only amateur in the field, made the cut and an impressive bound 12 was placedone at 1 under 143.

Local Lad Varun Parikh (74-70) was a further shot back in bound 15one Place, and was the only player in Ahmedabad who made the cut.
