A bill to establish a Malaysian Transport Safety Board (MTSB) is expected to be tabled in Parliament next year, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said. The star.
The Transport Ministry is in the final stages of finalizing a memorandum on the establishment of the Transport Safety Council, which would be presented to the Cabinet before the end of the year, Transport Minister Dewan Rakyat said.
“Once we receive in-principle approval, the Attorney General’s Chambers can proceed with drafting the bill. We hope to bring it back to Parliament next year for it to be tabled,” Loke said.


The transport minister’s statement was in response to Setiu MP Shaharizukirnain Abd Kadir, who asked about the main obstacles that have delayed the establishment of the MTSB, which was first proposed more than a decade ago.
The Malaysian government has yet to finalize the MTSB model, but it would be benchmarked against international bodies, the transport minister said.
“Of course, we will take into account the best practices used by such agencies. The task force established for this purpose will also operate independently in conducting investigations and making recommendations. Once the report is completed, it will not be modified and will be made public,” he said.
In August this year, the Ministry of Transport was reportedly considering a proposal to establish the MTSB, which would be tasked with investigating road accidents in the country.
