Blackburn Rovers boss Valerien Ismael has done that said goalkeeper Balazs Toth ‘made the difference’ against Leicester City.

Blackburn Rovers beat the Foxes 2-0 at the King Power Stadium in their last match Championship outing. Andri Gudjohnsen scored both of Rovers’ goals as they secured a useful three points on their travels.

Toth, 28, once again stood out between the sticks for the Lancashire outfit. He made an impressive save to deny Stephy Mavididi with the score just 1-0.

His head coach Ismael said this after the match, according to the official club website: “Oh my days! I saw the free player hit the ball and my first thought was ‘oh, it’s 1-1’. Balazs blocked the ball and I was shocked. I have no idea how he did that, but he made it!”

“It was important for him to have that big save to keep us in the game and it’s two games in a row where he’s made big saves that have made the difference. That was one of the top ten saves I’ve seen.”

Blackburn Rovers have risen to 19th in the table after their first twelve games. They sit four points above the drop zone and nine points outside the play-offs as they look up and down the division.

Blackburn Rovers goalkeeper Balazs Toth catches the eye

Blackburn Rovers signed Toth in August last year on a contract until June 2027. Rovers brought him in to add more competition and depth to their goalkeeping department.

Initially he had to provide backup to their number one spot in the last campaign. However, he has since made the number one spot at Ewood Park his own.

The stopper has made 20 appearances for his current club in all competitions so far, including 12 this season. He has kept Aynsley Pears out of the team.

Toth, a Hungarian international with two caps to his name, spent time at Videoton FC Fehérvár before moving to England. He has also had spells with Puskás Akadémia and Aqvital FC Csákvár in the past.

What next for Blackburn Rovers?

Blackburn Rovers have seen an upturn in form of late. Rovers will want to maintain their momentum.

Ismael’s men should be in a confident mood after beating Leicester City. Prior to their win over the Foxes, they beat Southampton 2-1, so they have won their last two on the spin.

They are back in action on Tuesday and want to make it three wins on the rebound. A tricky trip to Ashton Gate to play Bristol City awaits.

The Robins are in the play-offs along with Stoke City, Millwall and Preston North End, with the likes of Hull City and Charlton Athletic just below them. However, they were defeated 5-1 by Stoke City at the Bet365 Stadium in their last outing.

Ismael was named head coach of Blackburn Rovers in February after John Eustace left for Derby County. He has previously managed teams such as Barnsley, West Brom and Watford, as well as Wolfsburg, LASK and Besiktas.
