Nick Woltemade scored twice as Germany finally defeated Luxembourg 2-0 in World Cup qualifying on Friday.
The Newcastle United forward scored two second-half goals at Stade de Luxembourg as Julian Nagelsmann’s side secured a top-two finish in Group A.
Luxembourg had lost all four of their previous competitive meetings with Germany but came close to breaking the deadlock during the first half, with Daniel Sinani and Aiman Dardari seeing efforts go just wide of the target.
Serge Gnabry also shot narrowly wide from close range, but the visitors finally broke through four minutes after half-time. Leroy Sane led a quick counter before crossing to Woltemade to apply the finishing touch.
Dardari had a great chance to equalize wide shortly afterwards, before Germany stopped the match in the 69th minute, with Ridle setting up Baku Woltemade for his second goal of the day.
Sane later rattled the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area, but the two-goal cushion was more than enough for Germany to score three points.

Data debrief: Luxembourg’s losing streak continues
Germany has now kept three clean sheets in a row, the longest run of games without conceding a goal since a run of four between September and November 2016.
Meanwhile, Luxembourg has lost its last six World Cup qualifiers, the longest streak since at least 2010.
The Red Lions have also failed to score in their last four games. They last had an extended run without finding the net between October 2008 and October 2009 (six).
They failed to convert any of their seven shots against Germany, producing 0.78 expected goals (xG), while Germany scored 1.82 from 14 attempts.
