The midfielder received two consecutive yellow cards for dissent after confronting referee Darren England at the London Stadium.
West Ham were 1-0 down at the time of his dismissal thanks to Alexander Isak’s opener for Liverpool, before Cody Gakpo sealed victory for the visitors late on.
The Sky Sports commentary team branded Paqueta’s antics ‘ridiculous’, but the Brazilian took to social media to respond.
He said the impact of a two-year investigation into alleged spot-fixing of the player may have led to his behavior and took the FA to task for a lack of support. A Football Association investigation into the midfielder ended in July when he was cleared of the charges by an independent regulatory commission.
“It’s ridiculous to let your life and career be affected for two years without any psychological support from the federation,” he said via X.
“Maybe this ridiculous behavior is just a reflection of everything I’ve had to endure and, it seems, have to continue to endure! I’m sorry if I’m not perfect.”
In an earlier post, Paqueta apologized to his West Ham teammates and fans for his red card.
“I understand that I have to come across as the bad guy now. It is difficult to live with everything that has been caused in my life and in my psyche! I will continue to try to ensure that they do not affect me even more. This does not justify my expulsion and therefore I apologize to the fans and my teammates!”
