The U18’s of Manchester United opened their 2025/26 campaign with an away game to Everton on Saturday morning.
The competition marked the first competitive competition for Darren Fletcher as the new U18 manager.
United a very young side, starting XI from United included two players who are still eligible for U15S football in JJ Gabriel and Douka Nkoto.
First half
It was the first to be the core of everything that was positive. Gabriel joined Amir Ibragimov before he used his fast feet to get a shot that was stored.
In the 23rd minute, Gabriel was bumped into the box in the back and then won a penalty.
Ibragimov, who wore the bracelet of the captain, put the ball in the right corner from the place to give United a lead of one goal.
Gabriel continued to threaten for half, but Douglass Lukjanciks could not beat in the Everton goal.
Second half
The second half took place in the same spirit as the first, with United Control Proceedings but struggled to find the back of the net.
Gabriel hit a defender with a step-over before he saw his low-driven shot saved.
From the subsequent Scramble, the shot of Edward Ibrovic-Fletcher was blocked before Gabriel saw another attempt on the outside of the left post.
Kai Rooney was introduced from the bank for his U18S debut and was centimeter away from packing a debut goal.
Rooney fed by Ibragimov, rolled the ball to the side of his marker to open the space and fire a shot from the inside of the post with his weaker right foot.
A last-minute fear came when Everton played a long ball in the direction of United’s Box that was missed by Cameron Byrne-Hughes, but luckily James Overy lived in the situation to cover the line and make it free.
The last whistle came shortly thereafter to give United the three points in what was a really dominant version that did not match the score.
