Paul Skenes enjoyed his offseason with Livvy Dunne in Hawaii on Friday.
The couple was spotted at a Kauai resort, where they apparently celebrated the wedding of Skenes’ fellow Pirates teammate, Jared Jones, and his partner, Rylie Fox, according to posts on Dunne’s Instagram Story.
Skenes and Dunne were lounging by a resort pool and were later seen riding in a golf cart.
The couple’s vacation comes just days after Skenes, 23, took home the National League Cy Young award, the first of his young career.
Skenes won the award unanimously, becoming the first since Miami justice Sandy Alcantara in 2022.
“Winning is one thing. It’s another for it to be a unanimous decision,” Skenes said after winning the award: according to MLB.com. “It’s pretty special. The Cy Young Award is the Cy Young Award. Every baseball fan knows it. I’ve had a month to think about it now after the season ended and what would it mean.”
“That’s the answer I’ve come across, which is that it doesn’t change the season I’ve had, whether I win it or not. The same way I thought about the Rookie of the Year Award last year. It’s a huge honor, but we play this game because we love the game. We love to pitch and win.”
Through 32 starts this season for Pittsburgh, Skenes had an MLB-best ERA of 1.97 while striking out 216 batters in 187⅔ innings pitched.
Despite his dominant stats, Skenes finished with a 10-10 record, a testament to the lack of success of the Pirates, who finished with a 71-91 record – last place in the NL Central.
Skenes recently said he’s not used to losing and it’s starting to take its toll.
“It’s hard,” Skenes said Tuesday during an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show.” “It’s a huge adjustment. Air Force is the winningest organization in the world, and I’m going to LSU and winning a national championship. Obviously, team-wise, I didn’t have two great years in Pittsburgh, so it was an adjustment.”
“It’s hard not to show up on the field every day and be bitter sometimes, especially when we have seven, eight games in a row. I think it just comes down to being professional. I’ve learned more and more how to do that and be the same person every day. It gives me energy to think about what it could be if and when we win, so that’s what gets me out of bed.”
