Liverpool reportedly want Mo Salah to stay

Salah put Liverpool in a difficult position as he claimed the club had ‘thrown him under a bus’.

He said he feels ‘someone doesn’t want him at the club’ and suggested the Anfield match against Brighton next weekend could be his last game for the Reds.

Despite this, Liverpool “want the striker to stay”, according to journalist David Ornstein X.

He expanded further for the Athleticwrite: “Sources briefed on the situation, speaking anonymously because they were not authorized to do so publicly, say Salah will not face any further disciplinary action for his comments and believe the player and club will benefit from a short period without selection.

“Liverpool insist that they remain fully committed to Salah and his contract, which runs until 2027, while maintaining that the current situation is temporary and can still be turned around.

“It is said that they are currently making no plans for the striker’s departure, nor are they making any plans to use the January transfer window for potential replacements.”

If that is the case and there is no concerted effort to move Salah forward, then his public complaints about his rejection seem even more childish.

However, it is worth noting that the club would never come out and say they wanted him to leave even if that were the case.

After another performance against Leeds beset by individual errors, Sam Milne examined why Liverpool concede more goals than post-shot xG predicts:

“Over the last fifteen games in all competitions, Liverpool have created 28 xG but have actually only scored 20.

“On the other hand, they conceded 20.63 xG but actually let in 28 goals. This suggests that Slot himself is pushing hard lines, with his forwards failing to put the ball in the net when called upon.

“Anyone with eyes knows, however, that there is much more wrong with Liverpool than just poor finishing.”

Needing to win, Liverpool found themselves trailing at half-time following a Rivaldo free-kick, but an unlikely source of life came off the bench in Florent Sinama Pongolle, who scored the equalizer shortly after the break.
