LFC U18s hit in thriller with 9 goals, but 15-year-old prodigy scores again

Liverpool’s 15-year-old winger Josh Abe took another big step as he scored his second goal for the U18s, but it resulted in a 6-3 thrashing of Nottingham Forest.

The young Reds are on a run of five games without a win, having lost their last four games, including a 4-0 defeat to Real Madrid in the UEFA Youth League in midweek.

Their latest defeat came to Nottingham Forest, who led 6-2 after the hour, before Josh Sonni-Lambie’s late consolation.

Although it was a difficult afternoon for Liverpool, it brought another big moment for Abe, who scored his first home goal for the U18s.

Deployed on the right wing, the teenager finished Lamore Lee Forrester’s cross at the far post to make it 2-1 after goals from Forest players Riko Robinson and Ethan Broomes.

It has resulted in two goals and an assist in five games since Abe made the step up from the U16s after only turning 15 in July this year.

Alvin Ayman, restored to his natural role in midfield after a long spell as a left back this season, then made it 2-2 just before half-time with a stunning goal.

Unfortunately, the second half brought a flurry of goals from the visitors, with Robinson completing his hat-trick, along with further efforts from Scott Hamilton and Fuad Smith.

Sonni-Lambie, who came off the bench as his minutes were managed in a busy schedule for the forward, ensured Liverpool scored at least the final goal of the match, striking well for 6-3.

It means the U18s will now have to wait a fortnight with a sour taste in their mouths for their next match, with a trip to Newcastle in the cup being their next chance to return to form.

Simon Wiles’ side currently sit in the bottom half of the table, having won four, drawn one and now lost five of their ten games so far.

Sonni-Lambie is their top scorer with nine goals in twelve games for the U18s and eleven in seventeen across all age groups this season.
