NHL Rumors: Is Time Running Out in Nashville for Steven Stamkos?

Gord Stellick: “So Scott touched on Steven Stamkos’ references before talking about Ovi (Alex Ovechkin) so it’s interesting. Now he plays more minutes. I noticed Nashville won this weekend. Now they play Vancouver tonight (Monday night), and again, we’ll mention the different ones. One talked about Vancouver. One website that inquired about Steven Stamkos.

So I don’t know if that’s the case or not, but I think, I wonder, the Seth Jones of 2026 and look what happened last year when finally, fresh from Chicago, an elite player went to the Florida Panthers. And to plant the seed, what better playoff performer to add to a team than Steven Stamkos. So I’m curious to see how this plays out, but I have to think that maybe both sides are thinking about that possible kind of scenario in the long term.

Dave Pagnotta: “Yeah, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’ve had a discussion about it. Stamkos and management and probably coaching as well, just to see where everyone is in terms of the start of the season and his start to the season, and where things are going.”

His contract still runs for a few more years. It’s a big hit at eight. This will be an interesting story for me to follow anyway, as I think a lot of it will depend on how Nashville’s season goes overall. And we hear more whispers about some of their other guys, and speculation surrounding: Ryan O’Reillyand what will happen.

Is (Jonathan) Marchessault in the same position as Stammer? And given the evolution of his game over the years, is he more suited or better suited now to playing on the wing, to being on the right side, rather than being on the spot and having the responsibilities at the center?

And I know you can switch things up as the game goes on, but I think we’re in a scenario where we’re talking to some people around the league about him, that overall he might be a better fit, might be more beneficial to his game and his effectiveness now on the wing.

So that could be something for other clubs to consider, who might want to see what the odds are if Nashville finds itself in a position where they want to shake things up. Is Stamkos an option? If so, we want him in this position with all the considerations there.

I think about that a lot again, and a lot of those whispers, they could get louder and louder as Nashville’s season winds down again.
