Marti Cifuentes has confirmed the current status of Michael Antonio. The former West Ham striker and free agent is currently training with Leicester. The 35-year-old ended his contract with the Hammers last summer after a ten-year stay.
In total he played 268 league games and scored 68 goals for West Ham. On December 7, 2024, it was reported that Antonio was involved in a traffic accident. This happened after he crashed his Ferrari in Epping.
A year ago, on December 3, Michail Antonio came on as a substitute for West Ham in the match against Leicester. This was the first match under new manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, Leicester won 3-1.
On December 8, it was confirmed that he had undergone surgery for a fracture of the lower extremities. He was released from the hospital at the end of December. His injuries were expected to keep him out of football for at least a year.
He returned to playing on June 17, 2025. He came on as an 85th-minute substitute for Jamaica in a 2025 CONCACAF Gold Cup match against Guatemala.
Before his time at West Ham, he had spells at Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday and Reading. During his days at The Royals he was loaned out to several clubs including Southampton and Colchester.
He was occasionally called up to the England squad but never made his full debut. In 2021, he decided to change and represent Jamaica. He has made 24 appearances for the Raggae Boys so far, scoring 5 goals.

Marti Cifuentes does not have a player like Antonio in his selection. We believe he can do a job. He is currently training with Leicester and as a free agent he can sign outside the transfer windows. The club and the player have yet to decide what comes next.
Leicester wouldn’t exactly be taking a gamble by offering Antonio a short-term contract. The big question is what other alternatives he has to look at.
With a hole left by Patson Daka, who was absent after the game vs. Ipswich. Antonio could be a good option. Daka will play with Zambia in the AFCON. He will be away for a while. His absence depends on how Zambia will do in the tournament.
