The Colorado Avalanche hosted the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday night (November 11) as both teams entered the game on winning streaks. The Avalanche were looking for their fourth straight win, while the Ducks were looking for their eighth. They were two top teams in the league facing off in a big match early in the season. After the last horn the Avalanche won 4-1 against the Ducks.

Summary of the game

There were two goals in the first period, one from each side. The Avalanche got the scoring started early, 28 seconds into the game. After a deep forecheck that set up a Cale Makar turnover, Nathan MacKinnon passed the ball up front to Artturi Lehkonen, who ripped the ball onto the net to put it past Lukas Dostal. It was Lehkonen’s seventh of the season and MacKinnon’s assist pushed his point streak to 10 games. Additionally, MacKinnon became the first player to reach 30 points.

There was only one goal in the second period, but it was a special one. After 1,347 days, Gabriel Landesog scored his first goal in the regular season since March 5, 2022. He grabbed the rebound after a shot by Valeri Nichushkin. He turned the puck over Dostal’s pad and glove to give the Avalanche their second lead of the game. It was a clutch moment for the captain as this moment finally counted after two goals he had previously scored were taken off the board for various reasons. Ball Arena erupted as they finally saw their captain score his first goal in over three years, not counting the play-offs.

Parker Kelly put the game further out of reach after scoring an empty net goal. A great play by Brock Nelson in the neutral zone allowed MacKinnon to enter the Ducks zone. He passed it to Kelly, who scored his fifth of the season. The primary assist gave MacKinnon his third assist of the game and lifted him to 32 points on the season.
