Kyle Freeland was not perfect, but on Friday evening he threw a masterpiece in the 3-0 win of the Rockies on the Padres for 30.073 at Coors Field.
Only a few days away from throwing only eight throws in his last outing, the left-handed of the Rockies threw eight Shutoutinings, allow only two hits and brought a career high with 10 strikeouts. Freeland did not go batter.
He only threw 88 litters, but the decision not to have him haunted him was probably because of his short start on Tuesday evening against the Giants – one that saw him shouted without taking one out.
Of course nothing is easy for the 101-loss Rockies. Denser Victor Vodnik gave up a walk and a single in the ninth before he received a fly-out and a double play grounder to the third to note his seventh save.
The Rockies came in the night after they had lost 11 of their last 13 games, but led by Freeland and Catcher Hunter Goodman, they placed a contraction in the Playoff path of Padres. San Diego lost its fifth game in a row in a race with the Dodgers for the title National League West Division.
Freeland has never posted a complete competition. The closest nearby was on July 9, 2017, when he threw 8 1/3 no-hit innings against the White Sox, the longest no-hit bid for a Rockies-Werper in Coors Field in the Franchisgegezerge history.
On Friday evening, Freeland threw a perfect game until Ramon Laureano tore a one-out double to the left in the fifth inning. No worries, he let Jackson fly to the left and eliminated Jose Iglesias with a bad knuckle curve to end the inning.
San Diego’s only other hit from Freeland was a two-out single from Jose Iglesias in the eighth.
Freeland came from the most bizarre game of his career. On Tuesday he faced only two batters, threw eight throws, gave two points, recorded zero outs and was ejected for confronting Giants Slugger Rafael Devers during the showy Home-Run trave of Devers.
Colorado took a 1-0 lead in the third on Goodman’s two-out Home Run by San Diego Right-Hander Nick Pivetta. It was Goodman’s team -high 28th Homer, who Wilin Rosario for most Homers Bond through a primary catcher in franchise history. Rosario set the goal in 2012.
Goodman continued his scorching line on the record. He contributed to the Run of Colorado in the second when Mickey Moniak, Goodman and Jordan Beck hit consecutive singles from Pivetta to put the Rockies first, 2-0. Goodman’s Bloop Double to Right scored Moniak and pushed the lead from the Rockies to 3-0.
During his last three games, Goodman 9 for 12 went with two gays, two Doubles and nine RBIs.
