KSW Creates New Rule to Address Weight Misses – MMASucka

Polish promotion Konfrontacja Sztuk Walki (KSW) brought big news to the world of MMA on Tuesday.

They took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce a new rule regarding weight misses. The statement can be found here:

“KSW would like to announce that starting at XTB KSW 113, in addition to losing a portion of his or her salary, any fighter who fails to make the weight limit at the morning weigh-in the day before the event will also lose a point in the first round of the actual fight. This penalty applies to anyone who does not reach the required weight limit within the specified time, i.e. during the morning weigh-in on Friday and in the extra hour.”

KSW makes big change – Will others follow?

The change to the KSW ruleset is a big one for MMA. It’s a major promotion that’s finally cracking down on fighters who fail to make weight, something that’s written into every fighter’s contract when they sign on the dotted line.

KSW doesn’t have a rich history of fighters consistently losing weight. The last time a KSW fighter missed weight was in the main event of KSW 108, when Adam Soldaev came in heavy.

The UFC has a much bigger problem: fighters are losing weight. Six fighters have missed weight on the year’s PPV cards and despite financial penalties, they are not hindered at all in the fight.

It’s time for the UFC to adopt KSW’s rules. Any fighter who misses weight must start the first round and be able to score a maximum of nine points (essentially starting with points deductions).

There’s no doubt that this would drastically reduce the number of fighters cutting weight, as no one wants to start a fight on the cards before a punch is thrown.

A big step forward in the world of MMA weight loss.
