The annual Golf Trust Open welcomed 50 golfers with a handicap for the Shire last week and celebrated the power of sport to unite communities.

Supported by volunteers from Mercedes, Laureus Sport and Irwin Mitchell, the event showed determination, inclusion and performance.

The general champion was Kris Aves, who triumphed with an impressive 39 points.

Kris, a former metropolitan police officer, suffered a spinal cord slut during the terrorist attacks in Westminster in 2017.

Thanks to the Golf Trust and the use of a paragolfer, he made a remarkable return to the sport, culminating in this year’s victory.

In addition to the general title, division champions were crowned several categories:

Jake Taylor-0-18 Handicap category
Bryan Banham-19-27 Handicap category
Cedric Bloch – 28+ Handicap category
Alfie Sherwood – winner of the Challenge Cup (no handicap)

The Golf Trust, which was founded in 2012, is dedicated to bring people together through Golf.

The work has helped thousands of people experience the game, to split barriers and show how golf can be a director for social mobility, community connection and healthier life.

By adapting the sport to the needs of individuals, families and entire communities, the charity shows the unique capacity of Golf to involve on the track together for four generations.

Founder CAE Menai-Davies praised the success of the day:

“Thank you to everyone who participated and supported the day. This event is always such a fantastic celebration of Handicap and Golf. It also shows the power that Golf brings together. Congratulations to Kris and all other division winners.”
