The Kings are no longer willing to tie draft compensation to a trade proposal for Jonathan Kuminga, but their interest in the Warriors forward hasn’t gone away, James Ham said on his Locked On Kings YouTube show.
He noted that Sacramento has previously made a simple offer involving DeMar DeRozan.
“I’m sure the Sacramento Kings have offered DeMar DeRozan outright for Jonathan Kuminga in the past,” Ham said.
For such a deal to work financially, Golden State would have to add another player to stay under the hard cap, though the analyst indicated the Warriors don’t appear to have genuine interest in DeRozan anyway.
Ham also addressed Zach LaVine’s situation, saying the guard would “absolutely love to move on from Sacramento” but acknowledged that LaVine’s max contract makes any move difficult.
He added that there had been a brief glimmer of hope surrounding a potential trade framework with the Bucks that included Kyle Kuzma and Bobby Portis.
However, Ham suggested that scenario has become increasingly unlikely due to Milwaukee’s recent struggles on the field and Giannis Antetokounmpo’s latest calf injury.
