Strickland had a few words for the UFC middleweight champion who faced Anthony Hernandez on Saturday. In an interview with Newsweek SportsStrickland berated Chimaev for focusing more on Alex Pereira than his first title defense.
“He always does that [expletive]“Man,” Strickland said. “He probably thinks it’s going to be a tough fight, and he’s probably thinking, ‘I don’t want to do it.’ It’s an uphill battle.’ Each [expletive] fight the man fights, he is injured. Every fight. Would you like to see the fracture on my shoulder? I’ll show you the x-ray. There is something mysterious about every fight with this man [expletive] injury. There is no evidence of it. There’s no MRI, no X-ray, but for some reason you [expletive] fight, everything breaks for you.
Strickland continued his tirade against Chimaev after scoring a TKO finish over Hernandez in the third round. The former 185-pound ruler didn’t mince his words when he made his intentions known.
“I don’t know, man,” Strickland said. “When Chimaev finally comes off the bench, I’d like a piece of that little Chechen [expletive]but with him you never know, bro. You never know with that guy, but that’s who I want.”
It didn’t take long for Chimaev to respond social media. The champion reminded Strickland of one important fact.
“Habibi come down,” Chimaev wrote. “I destroyed the man who defeated you twice, an American [expletive].”
Chimaev won the UFC middleweight gold when he grounded Dricus du Plessis for a dominant unanimous decision. That fight took place in August 2025 and there is no word on when “Borz” will make his first title defense.
