Kevin Durant and the Houston Rockets still have to have substantive conversations about a contract extension after his profession from the Phoenix Suns this season. Durant is currently eligible to sign an extension of $ 118 million of $ 118 million, or he could sign up to $ 120 million in two years six months after the trade that started on January 5, 2026.

“There is no sense of urgency to get it done now,” said Tim Macmahon on the Wednesday of NBA today. “The rockets have other things they have to deal with this summer. In the first place, the expansion for Tari Eason.”

The rockets needed a player who was able to create his own attack and could durant acquire at a reasonable costs.

“They didn’t push all their chips in it,” continued Macmahon. “They were very patient for the pursuit of a profession for Kevin Durant. Issue would not say they chased it – they waited for the price to be a value that they found it was comfortable.

“Kevin Durant is their best player – he is not necessarily their priority. That is not an insult to him. Their priority is to ensure that they have a runway for as long as possible while trying to cash in in this window that they created by getting Kevin Durant.

“Certainly, I think both parties want that is more than a one -year window. But it will not be a maximum expansion. If that was the priority for Kevin Durant, it would have been done in combination with the trade and he would probably not have ended up in Houston.

“I think you will see both parties a patient approach. They will work together. But again, I don’t think this is an urgent situation. Even if they come to the camp or the beginning of the season, if it is not done, I don’t think you will see panic from both sides.”

Durant is in the last season of his four -year extension of $ 198 million, signed with the Brooklyn Nets in 2021.
