Keegan Bradley says that the US Ryder Cup team has a plan.
And that the Americans feel comfortable with that plan.
So yes, they will stick to that plan, the American captain said on Friday evening in Bethpage Black. But the decision comes as part of the plan – the four cushion pairs of Collin Morikawa and Harris English – was last ranked by a data group on the way to the event and then lost 5 and 4 to the European duo of Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood on Friday morning.
Bradley said, however, that he remained confident. And on Saturday morning, because his team is confronted with a general deficit of 5.5-2.5, Morikawa and English will play a four-cushion again, and they will do this again against McIlroy and Fleetwood.
“Be an exciting match and we are sticking to our plan,” said Bradley. “We are not going to panic. We are not going to panic and make such mistakes. We will stick to what we know.
“We have a lot of faith in them.”
The move is because the data golf website all 132 potential combinations ranked for each side and the Morikawa-English Combo was 132nd. The rank received validation through the Friday morning defeat and Morikawa and English did not play in the four-ball matches later.
However, did Bradley’s team have different data? Was the decision based on feeling?
He said the call was a bit of both.
“They really thought they were lost their match today,” said Bradley. “They wanted to go back to the job, and that’s why we did that.”
Would Bradley ever deviate from his plan?
He said he would do that. Just not now. He said he wasn’t shaken.
“Yes, I think there are certainly some things you should adapt to,” said Bradley. “We came across a very incredible game from the Europeans today. So you know, we look at the data. We look at the obtained strokes. In the morning session we just didn’t make puts. Really, hardly anything at all. Everything else was pretty good. We actually got more fairways and greens.
“But that middle game with Collin and Harris, they went against a final group that shot five, six, seven-under, in an alternative shot, which is difficult to beat.”
However, would there be one adjustment?
A reporter also asked Bradley if he would change the order if his players finished in the alternative shot matches. And the American captain answered in this way:
“Yes, I think we will keep that for our team and what we are going to do there.”
