Karine Silva climbed back in the profit column at UFC 319 With a very controversial decision victory over Dione Barbosa.
Although he came in like a 2-on-1 underdog, Barbosa looked spectacular in the opening round. She used her striking to suppress Silva’s attack early and almost ended the fight in the first after locking an arm bar in the decreasing seconds of the stanza.
Barbosa’s dominant display rang in the second place when she put Silva’s back on the mat for a large part of the round. Silva tried to take some attack from her back, almost in a triangle, but Barbosa eventually fought her way out of the hold.
Five minutes away from what could be her second consecutive loss in the Octagon, Silva showed some urgency in the third and final round, fishing on a guillotine and barbosa almost catching in a d’Arce choke. Unfortunately for Silva, Barbosa scrambled his way to safety and managed to take the top check again, where she would stay for the rest of the fight.
While the live crowd seemed to see the fight in favor of Barbosa, it was Silva who came at the top through a decision. After the announcement of Bruce Buffer, Daniel Cormier expressed confusion about the result, while Joe Rogan called it a “bad decision.”
