Denis Puric is undeterred by the moment that awaits him at ONE 173 in Tokyo, when he clashes with a huge Japanese star. Puric clashes with Takeru, and when he talks about his playing skills, he is fighting someone who is not only of such a high caliber, but also here on home turf, said Denis Puric [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“Yes sir. Yes, I’m excited, man. Most of my fights, like I said before; most of my fights have been on enemy territory, that’s what I call it. So, you know, nothing new for me. I’m excited about the fight. I’m excited to perform in front of the Japanese fans.”
Denis Puric wants to beat Takeru the right way and then secure a title shot
Takeru is also expecting an explosive encounter here, as he sees Puric as an incredibly aggressive fighter who likes to trade shots. When he gave an answer to that from his next opponent, Denis Puric said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“Yes, he should [laughs]. He should be too. Yes, I bring a lot of aggressiveness, and you know, Takeru is no slouch either. So I’m excited for a war, man. I know it’s going to be a war. So I’m looking forward to it.”
When asked how much of a feather in his cap it would be to get a win over a former K1 champion, Denis Puric joked [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“Oh yeah, I mean, this fight means, you know, one of the biggest fights of my career for sure. I want to get in there and, you know, show my skills and hopefully dominate the fight. I’m coming out with the W because I am; my eyesight is on that title right now. You know, I’m sure if I beat Takeru in fashion, hopefully I’ll get that opportunity.”
Puric wants to rock ‘crazy legend’ Takeru early to get him out of there at ONE 173
In terms of his methodology for the machinations of this match on ONE 173 with the Japanese superstar, Denis Puric said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“Yes. Again, Takeru is a great legend, you know. A super fast fighter. Super fast. I know he’s going to bring that speed. I know he’s going to try to go for my body, since I’ve been dropped. My last two fights I’ve been dropped with the body shot. That’s something I’ve been working on. Fixing those mistakes, making sure it doesn’t happen. I didn’t recover very well from the first one either; I lost to Elias Mahmoudi to a body shot.”
“I really tore my body to pieces, because you know a taller guy, every time I came in I was eating knees and stuff like that. Then I fought for maybe four months. Three or four months after that, and I still hadn’t fully recovered, and I got dropped again with the body shot. So now, you know, I’ve had about six months to work on it. I’ve healed well, worked on the core and strengthened the body really well.”
“So to make sure this doesn’t happen again, I know what Takeru’s strengths and weaknesses are [are]. Once again I feel his strengths will be speed. He’s going to try to do the body, the toe stabs, or whatever you call those kicks. They have a name for it, and I know he’s going to try to do the calf kicks too. That’s literally all I see of him. He doesn’t have much power, but he is very fast.”
“So, he’s probably going to do a lot of that pitter patter where that happens, you know, it wears you out as the fight goes on. So my plan is to just go in there and just turn his lights off. You know, I know I’m going to touch him. He doesn’t have his; I feel like his chin is very weak. So, and the way he fights his guard is very open. So I feel like I just have to go in there. I have to handle him hit, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to rock him early.
Denis Puric addressed some of the recent rhetoric about Takeru wanting to use defensively vulnerable, chinny or whatever wording you want in that regard. [via Bowks Talking Bouts],
“Yeah, sure. I’m going to wear that chin down and eventually I’m going to turn his lights off. Yeah. So I’m not going to make him do too much work because again, he’s younger. He’s got more stamina than me. I just have to just blitz and just use my footwork.”
“A lot of in and out, make sure I don’t get hit when I’m out and blitz when I come in. You know, the kicks are out the window. So he’s still going to have to box. His boxing isn’t the best. I feel like I can box better than him. I feel like I have more power than him. And I think that’s where it’s going to come into play.”
