Manchester United has considerably strengthened their attack, with three signing sessions with a big money.
After a season in which goals were difficult to obtain, Ruben Amorim clearly gave priority to improving the team’s attack, and delivered Ineos.
Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo are expected to add goals, but the head coach will be well aware of the need to strengthen the team’s spine.
Midfield is a clear point of care, in which Casemiro no longer has its legs, while Manuel Ugarte has difficulty imposing himself since his move last summer.
Midfielder, goalkeeper Hunt does not go according to plan
Now that the Carlos Baleba Chase comes to a stop, it is still to be seen which alternative the co-owners ultimately sign.
The Red Devils also need a new keeper, who gave the shape of Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir last season. But so far it looks like both their goals – Gianluigi Donnarumma and Senne Lammens could be on their way elsewhere.
Surprising, Givemessport claimed that the first plan of Amorim was to sign six players this summer-three attackers, a midfielder, a new keeper and a center-back.
Logically, a defender is retired Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof left. Both Matthijs de Ligt and Luke Shaw do not have the best injury records.
But the 20-way English competition champions have suspended those plans until next summer, probably because of the costs involved in strengthening their attack, while the sale of players still has to take place.
Defensive plans suspended
“Manchester United has suspended plans to sign a new central defender until 2026, because every deal would be too complicated to do this month, understand Givemessport sources.
“Givemesport sources understand that recruitment heads in Old Trafford have drawn up a plan for the end of the 2024/25 season about the company they wanted to do, and it has put six signing sessions, including three attackers, a midfielder, a goalkeeper and a center-back in the next 12 months.
“Although Ineos have been able to get the three attackers over the line, they are now the feeling that a movement for a new center-back will probably not be tackled until January.
“Sources insist that strengthening the center-back position remains on the club’s task list, and the recruitment team is dedicated to adding a new defender to the team as part of their ambitious long-term plan aimed at building a Premier League-winning team in 2028.”
This probably means a midfielder and keeper is currently higher on the priority list. United seems well filled at the back, given Lisandro Martinez comes after a return while Tyler Fredricson and Ayden Heaven are impressed when they are called.
A move next summer is more logical, because the team desperately needs a midfield playmaker. Hopefully Ineos can deliver.
