Kansas started a blockbuster start on Sunday with his recruitment class 2026, when five -star point guard Taylen Kinney is committed to the Jayhawks Live on CBS Sports HQ. Kinney is considered a five -star perspective and, according to 247Sports, is the number 1 point guard in the class.
The resident of Newport, Kentucky, plays with the Overtime Elite Developmental Program in Atlanta, where he had an average of 20.1 points and five assists per match last season. He also considered Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisville and Oregon.
In a slowly moving recruitment cycle, Kinney is an important early Domino. Of the 15 players with a five-star prospect degree in the 247Sports ranking, he is only the third to announce a university spent. Kinney will also set the tone for the Jayhawks class, because he is KU’s first promise of the cycle.
The 6-foot-1 playmaker has demonstrated a natural scoring capacity during his time on primary and secondary school circuits, but he is not missing as a passer. He on average 20.1 points and five assists per match last season for the Overtime Elite Developmental Program in Atlanta. 247Sports Director of Scouting Adam Finkelstein referred to Kinney As a “play guard that is flexible and versatile with his attack.”
“He is great in drive-and-kick promotions, can make pick-and-roll lectures and understand how to feed the mail,” Finkelstein wrote. “He also has a pretty good feeling, even in the attack mode, how he can use his versatility to make plays without pounding the ball or setting unnecessarily.”
By landing Kinney, Kansas brings the early framework together for a revision of the defense half in 2026-27. While Ballyhooed first-year student Darryn Peterson will lead the attacking attack by Kansas this season, he is considered an almost-lock as a one-and-do-do departure for the NBA design of 2026.
Transfer attachments Melvin Council Jr. And Jayden Dawson also use their last season of suitability in 2025-26, which means that KU’s surveillance rotation will probably look much different in 2026-27. Kinney can be an important factor in that comparison.
