Manchester United U18S started their U18 Premier League North campaign with a 1-0 win over Everton at Finch Farm on Saturday morning.
The fixture marked the first league match of Darren Fletcher that was in charge of the side. He included Kai Rooney, son of club legend Wayne Rooney, and highly appreciated forward JJ Gabriel in the MatchDay team.
United started the game sharply, with Captain Amir Ibragimov to help the way dominate the possession.
Ibragimov founded James Overy for the first chance of the game, but the shot of the latter was blocked. A minute later, Gabriel also suffered the same fate after combining with the skipper.
Midfielder Jim Thwaites saw his free kick fly over the bar before Ibragimov opened the score from the penalty place after Gabriel was polluted.
Goalkeeper Douglass Lukjanciks kept the home team in the game and denied Eddie Ibrovic-Fletcher and Gabriel to extend the lead of United before the break.
United maintained control after the restart, with Ibrovic-Fletcher, Gabriel and Douka Abdoulaye who have opportunities to score but not to get their efforts on goal.
With United looking for their second goal of the game, Rooney Ibrovic-Fletcher replaced in the 73rd minute.
The 15-year-old quickly made an impact and found the space in the area to shoot, but his effort bounced off the woodwork. The rebound fell on Ibragimov, who could not put the ball home.
Everton almost informed the score of the header of replacement Ray Robert who defeated goalkeeper Cameron Byrne-Hughes, but Overy denied him with a goal to help secure the maximum points.
The Young Reds will be confronted against Middlesbrough next Saturday in their first home game of the season.
Elsewhere, Manchester City and Liverpool were the biggest winners in the opening weekend-de Cityzens, Leeds United defeated 5-0, while the Reds registered a 5-1 victory in Stoke City.
