Justin Thomas was sidelined indefinitely after microdiscectomy surgery

World number 8 Justin Thomas announced on social media On Friday he announced that he had undergone “successful” microdiscectomy surgery on his back.

“After a bit of discomfort and some symptoms over the past few months, I had an MRI and it showed that I had a disc and nerve problem,” Thomas said in a video message. “Yesterday [Thursday] A successful microdiscectomy was performed in the morning. As you can see, I’m already out of the hospital, which is great news.

Thomas had not played since the Ryder Cup in September and he finished the season tied for seventh in the Tour Championship. He won the RBC Heritage in April for his first Tour title since the 2022 PGA Championship.

“Now the period and rest process begins. Over the next few weeks I will use this time to rest, prepare and rehabilitate. I have a great, great team behind me that I trust and I look forward to doing that,” he said on social media. “As for 2026 and what that looks like, I’m not necessarily circling a specific event or having a specific event in mind for when I get back. I’ll definitely miss some events to start the year, but I want to fully listen to my body and let this disc fully heal, so this isn’t an issue going forward.”

The 32-year-old has finished in the top 3 alongside his father Mike at the December PNC Championship for the past five years (winning in 2020) and has also achieved top-5 finishes at the Hero World Challenge the past three years.

The first signature event of the new season for the PGA Tour is the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, February 12-15, followed by another signature event, the Genesis Invitational, February 19-22.
