Justin Gaethje doesn’t think Paddy Pimblett will last five rounds with him. Gaethje (26-5) and Pimblett (23-3) will fight for the interim lightweight title Saturday at UFC 324 in Las Vegas. Although Gaethje is best known for his hitting, Pimblett is a top grappler. However, Pimblett has vowed to stick it out and trade with Gaethje. But Gaethje vows to turn Pimblett into a wrestler. While Gaethje recognizes Pimblett’s skills, he believes ‘The Baddy’ will provide him with plenty of opportunities to exploit.
‘He’s going to make mistakes’
“I’m definitely going to turn him into a wrestler, I promise you that,” Gaethje told New York Post Sports. “But we’ll see, he’s super dangerous. He definitely puts 100% of his power into his shots. But he does leave himself open. And I have to use my experience and my technical skills to take advantage of those mistakes. He will make mistakes. And at this level you can’t make mistakes.”While Pimblett wrestles at a high level, the highest level opponents he has faced are Bobby Green and Michael Chandler. Meanwhile, Gaethje has struggled against the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov and Charles Oliveira, although he came up short on both occasions.
