UFC commentator Daniel Cormier has questioned Jon Jones’ criticism of Tom Aspinall following his UFC 321 no-contest.
As we know, Jon Jones is quite a divisive figure – and that’s an understatement. He’s been involved in so many controversies over the years that we’ve lost count, and there’s no guarantee there won’t be more.
He also wasn’t a big fan of the idea of fighting Tom Aspinall, and many believed he actively avoided him for over a year. Regardless of whether you believe that or not, there’s no denying that the timing of him now wanting to face Alex Pereira at UFC White House next summer is odd.
After Jones suggested Aspinall is a quitter, his former rival Daniel Cormier had a few things to say.

“When Jon Jones is called a duck, when Jon Jones is told that Tom Aspinall is the man to beat him, he sits back and hopes something happens that gives him a reason to downplay that,” Cormier said on his YouTube channel. “We talked about it before the fight; I told you guys that if Ciryl Gane won, Jon would keep saying, ‘Is that the guy you thought was going to beat me?’
“Guys, that was a four minute fight. They didn’t fight long [enough] fighting to really form an opinion. You can’t form as strong an opinion as so many others. I think the reason they formed such a strong opinion is because they never saw Tom wrestle at all.”
“Is Jon Jones a little too loud?” Cormier asked. “Can we really form such a strong opinion based on four minutes? Doesn’t Tom Aspinall deserve a little mercy? And are we only reacting this way because we’ve never seen him wrestle at all? And also, how much can you wrestle in four minutes? He had a nosebleed, and I think because he had that nosebleed it made people feel like, ‘Oh my God, this guy is in trouble.’ Once again there are 21 minutes left in the fight.
“I saw Khabib Nurmagomedov lose a round to Justin Gaethje, then eventually submit him and catch up on the fight. A lot can change between minute 4 and minute 7, 9, 15, 21, all the way to 25.”
